DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM
Journalism Minor
A minor in journalism can help students in every field, from anthropology and art, to sociology, special education and theater. Many students choose journalism as a major or as a minor in their pre-professional studies for careers in law or public service. Journalism is also helpful for students interested primarily in specialized writing in the area of their interest, such as business and economics, environmental studies and political science. Many students with liberal studies majors select journalism as one of their three minors. Graduates soon discover that the ability to write easily and well is an important asset in their careers as it was during their college years. For a minor in journalism, students should stop by the Journalism Department in Morrill 202 and see professors Harris or Dunklee for advisement.
Requirements for the Journalism Minor
- 18 total Journalism credits consisting of JRN 200 Basics of Journalism
- Five additional journalism courses (selected with advisor).
- May include a journalism internship on a publication, broadcast studio, advertising or public relations agency, or in a government or community organization.
