Five Core Courses:

JRN 200 Basics of Journalism JRN 201 Reporting & Writing

JRN 351 Media Law & Ethics

Total Credits from core courses: 15

Total Credits from core and selected additional course: 18

Plus Four Journalism Electives
Of these, a maximum of nine credits may be for work as an intern. With faculty sponsorship and the Dean's approval you may also plan one or two independent study projects, each for three credits. Beyond the required journalism electives, students in the B.A. degree program are limited to an additional nine credits for elective journalism courses involving specialized skills. You may consider planning a strong minor or a double major.

Total Credits Electives: 12

Total: 30 credits

Double Major
Journalism students in the B.A. degree program are encouraged to consider a double major. Students must satisfy the requirements for both majors, and courses required for one major may not be used to complete requirements for the second major, but almost all liberal arts majors require only 30 credits for the B.A. degree. Double major students have selected, in combination with journalism, most other disciplines taught at SCSU. Any combination adds breadth of knowledge as well as specialized information and skills to a journalism career. If you are interested, consult your faculty adviser early during your college years.

Internship
While an internship is not required for the B.A., it is strongly recommended.
